Judging the Wines

Trophies : “All Canadian Individual Category Wines of the Year”
Wines will be judged using the 100-point system. Trophies are awarded to the single highest scoring wine (using an average of the aggregate judges scores) from each of the following categories.
  • BEST RED TABLE WINE
  • BEST WHITE TABLE WINE
  • BEST DESSERT WINE
  • BEST SPARKLING WINE
  • BEST FRUIT WINE
  • BEST VALUE WINE
    (From highest scoring whites under $15, and reds under $20)
All Canadian medals : “Best of Category” wines
Wines will be judged using the 100-point system. Best of Category medals will be awarded to the single highest rated wine (using an average of the aggregate judges scores) from each of the following categories. Ties to be decided by a final tasting.

    Merlot (under $20 / over $20)
    Cabernet Franc (under $20 / over $20)
    Meritage Varietals & Blends (under $20 / over $20)
    Pinot Noir (under $20 / over $20)
    Gamay Noir
    Single Varietal Red Hybrid
    Red Hybrid Blend
    Baco Noir (separate category hybrid)
    Marechal Foch (separate category hybrid)

  • WHITE WINES
    Chardonnay (under $20 /over $20)
    Chardonnay Unoaked
    Pinot Blanc
    Sauvignon Blanc
    Riesling
    Gewurztraminer
    Pinot Gris / Grigio
    Single Varietal White Hybrid
    White Hybrid Blend

  • DESSERT WINES
    Riesling Icewine
    Red Icewines
    Vidal Icewine
    Non-traditional Icewine
    Late Harvest Wine
    Fortifieds and other Desserts

  • ROSE WINE

  • SPARKLING WINE

All Canadian medals of merit : gold, silver, bronze
Wines will be judged using the 100-point system. To maintain the integrity of these awards only the top scoring wines will be honoured.

Gold awards of merit will be awarded to those wines scoring in the top 10 percentile.
Silver awards of merit will be issued to those wines scoring in the second 10 percentile.
Bronze awards of merit will be issued to those wines scoring in the third 10 percentile.
